Putin plans to annex eastern and southern Ukraine and move into Moldova. More Russian Commanders killed.
May 3, 2022 - Russia is planning to annex Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions after holding “sham” elections in mid-May, according to Michael Carpenter, the U.S. ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
Carpenter said that the U.S. also believed Russia was considering a similar plan in a third region, Kherson, where Moscow has recently solidified its control and imposed use of its ruble currency.
British prime minister Boris Johnson will hail Ukraine’s resistance against tyranny as an exemplar for the world during a virtual address to the country’s parliament after promising a further $375m in military aid to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in the southern port city of Mariupol, Russian troops have launched new attacks on the Azovstal steel works, after a group of about 100 civilians were evacuated.
Despite this, the UN and Red Cross hope to oversee more civilian evacuations early on Tuesday morning. Hundreds of non-combatants remain hold up underground at the sprawling factory site alongside Ukrainian fighters, forces there say.
