Last week I informed all my subscribers and supporters on substack that I needed to take a short break from this newsletter due to a health emergency.
Well, I’m now finally home from the DC VA hospital a week after emergency open-heart triple bypass surgery.
Go big or go home, right?
This is me on Friday before being discharged.
For 2 days after surgery I remained intubated under anesthesia and am told it was touch-and-go.
But I’m too tough to kill, and God said not yet.
My surgeon, Retired Navy Captain Jared Antevil, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Walter Read National Military Hospital, was God's instrument.
I’m deeply grateful to partly have had the type of care U.S. presidents receive through him and his team.
Jared has served with Marines ashore and afloat during his decades as a Navy doctor
He is also a lapsed marathon runner, like me.
He previously ran a half marathon with one of his military heart surgery patients
And I’m planning on doing the same with Doc next year.
Now that I have a supercharged heart, watch out!
Meanwhile it seems this serious surgery was also one quick way to lose my COVID 19 pounds.
Though, I don’t recommend it!
It might still take me a week or two to get back into things, so I ask for your continued patience and understanding.
God bless and Semper Fi.
